July 2016: “Growing On the River” (Sutton Bacon of Nantahala Outdoor Center) In 2007 Sutton Bacon took the reins of Bryson City’s Nantahala Outdoor Center.  As our ScaleUp WNC case study reveals, in less than a decade he has essentially reinvented the business by redefining its mission.


January 2017: “Laying Down Roots” (Matt Parris of Roots Hummus) In 2006 Parris started Roots as a community cafe in Asheville. Profiled in our ScaleUp WNC case study, he’s gone on to oversee a rapidly-growing artisanal food (i.e., hummus) company, one that also possesses a noteworthy social conscience.
