How the Camping Industry Has Left Its Mark on the Blue Ridge  

Western North Carolina is famous for a lot of things, great beer, great music, and great food among them. But it’s hard to argue that the titan of the list isn’t the great outdoors.

Each year, thousands of people flock to WNC to get their own little taste of the Blue Ridge Mountains, rivers like the Davidson and Pigeon, and national forests like Pisgah and Nantahala. There’s whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and backpacking. And for people who enjoy spending days at a time in nature, overnight camping is a huge draw.
