Village Jewelers of Boone held a ribbon cutting celebration for a second store in Blowing Rock. Persons showing up at the grand opening had a chance to meet the jewelers, receive a free gift bag, and register to win prizes like Citizen watches, sterling silver, ultrasonic jewelry cleaners, and select estate items. Followers on social media received alerts on how to win prizes throughout the week. In addition, the grand opening corresponded with Village Jewelers’ annual estate jewelry extravaganza. Owners Joy and Charlie Travis first opened an auction house in Blowing Rock in 1979, under the name Old World Galleries. They worked there 24 years, changing the name to Village Jewelers before retiring. Then, in 2013, they went back into business in Boone. There, they teamed up with master goldsmith and jewelry designer Morgan Shaw, who had been running his own store, and Jennifer Trivette, who now has 20 years’ experience repairing jewelry. The Blowing Rock store’s inventory will be similar to that in Boone, with antique, estate, and contemporary pieces; both stores will offer custom design, appraisal, and help with special purchases; but only Boone will have a full-service workshop. It was the Travis’ passion for sharing the ins and outs of fine jewelry with connoisseurs that brought them back into the business. Now they will get to rekindle conversations with former Blowing Rock customers.
