The Impetus and Evolution of Western North Carolina’s Business Magazine

In Asheville it seems like everyone knows the Morgans—or rather, the Morgans know everyone. While the region leans increasingly migratory and suburban, the family’s ties to the area and its people harken back to a more traditional time defined by true community. Whether you need to get in touch with a reliable car mechanic or the CEO of the city’s biggest employer, chances are, the Morgans know a guy. 

Perhaps it’s this spirit of knowing neighborliness that helped them pull off the unimaginable: founding a profitable print publication in the midst of both a national recession and a digital reckoning that was shuttering stalwarts of print around the country. At Capital at Play, we love to share the stories of businesses whose success was born of a seemingly harebrained idea carried to fruition despite the odds—probably because ours is one of them.
