DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA
On July 13 employees showing up for work at Alfred Angelo, a nationwide retailer of wedding gowns, were surprised to learn it would be their last day working for the company. The next day, Alfred Angelo filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection. The retailer sold brides and bridesmaid gowns and accessories at 60 stores and through 1,400 other retailers. The announcement sent many brides with outstanding orders into panic, as it normally takes about six weeks to fill custom orders, and money had already been spent. Alfred Angelo attempted to fill orders inasmuch as possible, but on August 2 announced it would be impossible to fill any more. The press release directed customers interested in filing claims to the federal bankruptcy court’s website. To help with the shock, national chains like David’s Bridal, as well as many small, local retailers, have been offering discounts to affected parties.
