The Cotton Quilt of Granite Falls has been has selected as one of ten shops in North America featured in the Spring/Summer 2018 edition of Better Homes & Gardens’ Quilt Sampler. About 3,000 quilt shops were eligible to apply for the distinction. All they had to do was submit a detailed application and provide information on their company’s history, promotions, charitable work, teaching schedules, and design philosophies. They also had to design and make an original quilt to be featured in the book with photographs and instructions. The Cotton Quilt settled on a handsome and hearty work conjuring impressions of Pennsylvania Dutch design in a Provençal-esque color theme. It bore the name Border Blossoms. Since the Cotton Quilt’s submission was among the favorites of the panel of judges, a team from the magazine visited on-location to take photographs and develop the story, and the magazine hit the shelves May 15. The Cotton Quilt is located in a farmhouse stocked with batiks and contemporary prints as well as its specialty, reproductions of fabrics from the 1800s and 1930s. Tools of the trade and accessories are also available for sale. Quilters of all levels, from nonexistent up, are invited to come in, set a spell, and talk and quilt with neighbors in a laid-back atmosphere.
