WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA
With six honored venues, North Carolina was second only to California in its number of winners listed in OpenTable’s Most Scenic Restaurants in America for 2017. The list is built from feedback from over ten million diners patronizing over 25,000 restaurants. In 87th place was the picturesque Sunset Terrace at the Omni Grove Park Inn. Framed in century-old, fortress-scale masonry, the terrace offers a wide, windswept view across the legendary Donald Ross golf course, into the Blue Ridge Mountains, and off into the sunset. In 72nd place was the Restaurant at Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock. The stone and wood balcony, surrounded by romantic woodlands, treats guests to Western North Carolina’s signature rustic elegance. Coming in 23rd was Canyon Kitchen in Sapphire. Tall windows in the vaulted ceiling showcase a finely-groomed meadow backdropped by dramatic granitic escarpment. Placing 15th was Blue Ridge in Asheville. This spot is also at the Grove Park, overlooking the same scenes as the terrace, through handsome, modern glazing that runs the length and height of the wall. Other North Carolina restaurants to make the list were the 13th-place Bistro at Topsail in Surf City and the 11th-place Bistro at Childress Vineyards in Lexington. First place went to 15 Point Road in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
